Maine Yarn Cruise FAQs
Q: What shops are participating?
A: We have 22 shops participating this year from all across Maine! See all the details here.
Q: Can I get a printable list of all the shops?
A: Yes! Just click here.
Q: How much does it cost to join the cruise?
A: Maine Yarn Cruise bags cost $16 and is considered your entry into the event.
Q: When can I sign up?
A: You can sign up on or after July 1, the official start of the cruise, by visiting one of the participating shops. Some shops begin accepting pre-orders mid-June. Look out for future emails or find us on social to see when pre-orders begin.
Q: How do I get my passport?
A: Your passport is included with the purchase of a tote. You can create your online account with the included 6 digit one-time use code, just follow the instruction on the insert. For those that do not have a smartphone, we do have a limited number of paper passports.
Q: Can I have both a digital and paper passport?
A: Not really. You are only allowed one entry into the grand prize drawings. You can not combine a digital and paper passport to complete the cruise. Your completed entry needs to be either all digital or all paper.
Q: Is this just for knitters?
A: No. Everyone who loves yarn is invited to participate! Our hope is to make this event more inclusive year after year for all fiber artists of all skill levels.
Q: What if I can’t get to every shop?
A: That’s perfectly okay! We encourage participants to do what they can/want and leave the rest. Our only hope is that you have fun adventuring Maine and discovering new yarn shops.
Q: Can I shop online?
A: While many of our shops have online stores, participation in the cruise requires you to go visit the brick-and-mortar shops here in Maine.
Q: Can I still get prizes if I don’t visit all 22 shops?
A: Yes! Each shop will have monthly drawings. You’ll get raffle tickets when you check in at the shops along the way.
Each shop offers monthly prizes and a grand prize drawing. And if you visit all the shops, you can enter the drawing to win our End-of-the-Road Grand Prize—a $400 gift card, and second place is a $200 gift card to the MYC shop of your choice.
Q: I’ve checked in to several shops, but I don’t see them in my progress tab.
A: It sounds like your session has timed out. Just log out and log back in, and all your history will be there.
Q: I’ve forgotten the password I used to create my account.
A: Don’t worry. Your account is still there. We can reset your password, just contact us and we’ll be able to help you.
Q: Is there a way for me to set this up so I don’t have to keep entering my password?
A: Yes. Most smartphones have the ability to use FaceID or a fingerprint to make it so you don’t have to keep typing in your password. The settings for this feature vary by the type of phone you have. Please refer to your phone’s manufacturer for more details.
Q: I participated last year. Can I use my login from last year?
A: No. All the accounts from previous years have been archived. You will need a new account and a new activation code for this year.
Q: I don’t want to enter the code at the shop. Can I do it from home later?
A: Unfortunately, no. The check-in code needs to be entered at the time of your visit to the shop. Associates can assist you with this. Some shops are in an area with poor cell service; these will have a guest Wi-Fi that you’ll be able to use to check in. Any participants who check in later or “after hours” will not be eligible for the overall prizes.
Q: Who organizes this event?
A: This event is a collaborative effort between local yarn shop owners and employees. We all volunteer our time to make this event possible, so please be patient and kind. Our hope is to bring you a fun, inclusive event that highlights our vibrant yarn community (and our beautiful state).
