Designed by Kate Veselunka, the Hue Shift Shawl celebrates color, movement, and the joy of discovering new yarns along the Maine Yarn Cruise route.
This intermediate-level pattern works beautifully with hand-dyed yarns and curated color palettes. Its modular construction allows you to customize the size and shape of your project, making it perfect for cruise purchases, stash treasures, or a combination of both.
The CAL begins July 15 and runs through October 12. Join and start making anytime.

About the designer
Hi, I’m Kate, the crochet designer behind ItWasYarn. I create modern crochet patterns with a special love for texture, and thoughtful details. Lately, I’ve been especially inspired by modular crochet designs, rich stitch textures, and mosaic crochet. I’m excited to be part of this interactive pattern project and proud to be among the first designers exploring this new format with Design Crochet. I believe interactive patterns are an exciting step forward for our craft, making patterns more engaging, accessible, and enjoyable to use. I’m delighted to share this experience with you during the Maine Yarn Cruise and can’t wait to see your projects, hear your feedback, and learn what you think of this new way of presenting crochet patterns.

Hi, I’m Candace, the founder of Design Crochet, a company based in Maine with a mission to make crochet patterns easier to read, write, and follow.
After years of teaching crochet, I kept wondering: what if patterns could do a better job of supporting makers while they crochet, not just before they start?
This interactive version of the Hue Shift Shawl is one of our first attempts to answer that question. It’s still crochet first, just with a little more guidance, organization, and support along the way.
